1 hurt in multi-vehicle wreck on I-15 ramp near Grantville

SAN DIEGO, CA — At least one person was hurt early Wednesday in a multi-vehicle crash on an Interstate 15 offramp near San Diego’s Grantville area, reports the California Highway Patrol.

The collision occurred on the connector ramp from I-15 northbound to I-8 westbound. It was first reported to the CHP shortly before 5:32 a.m.

Early accounts of the accident indicated a Ford, a motorcycle, and a sedan were involved, but the CHP traffic incident log later suggested as many as 20 vehicles were impacted. At least three vehicles came to rest in the center divider facing the wrong way.

Details are limited, but officials said a heavy volume of loose gravel created slippery conditions on the roadway, causing at least one driver to lose control of their vehicle.

One person suffered minor injuries in the crash, but it was unclear whether the patient required transport to a hospital.

By 5:53 a.m., a SigAlert had been issued for the area and the connector ramp was shut down as crews worked to clear the large amount of gravel that covered all lanes.

At 8:52 a.m., the scene had cleared from the roadway and all lanes were reopened to traffic.
