1 seriously hurt in wrong-way crash on SR-163 near Hillcrest

SAN DIEGO, CA — Two people were hospitalized early Wednesday after a wrong-way collision on California Highway 163 in San Diego’s Hillcrest area, reports ABC 10 News.

The incident occurred on the southbound highway near University Avenue at around 2:30 a.m.

California Highway Patrol said a woman drove a GMC Sierra pickup truck northbound into the southbound lanes from the University Avenue exit and struck a Honda CR-V head-on.

The male driver of the Honda suffered serious injuries and was transported to Scripps Mercy Hospital. As of this writing, no updates on his condition has been released.

Authorities said the driver of the pickup was not hurt, but she was taken to a hospital to be evaluated for DUI after appearing to hyperventilate at the scene.
