1 seriously injured in solo car crash on SR-79 near Julian

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA — At least one person was seriously hurt Thursday afternoon in a single-vehicle accident on California Highway 79 near southwest Julian, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The collision took place at the intersection with Julian Estates Road, in an area east of William Heise County Park. It was first reported by the CHP shortly before 2:30 p.m.

It was not immediately clear what led up to the wreck, but a small brown car was totaled.

Tow crews were called to the scene to remove the vehicle, which had come to rest in the roadway, blocking at least one traffic lane.

The CHP traffic incident log indicates “major injuries” in the crash, though the number of people hurt have not been confirmed.

A blood tech was also requested at the scene, suggesting the driver was suspected of intoxication.
