10 displaced after car hits National City apartment building

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA — Ten people were temporarily displaced from their homes Wednesday morning after a driver crashed into a National City apartment building, reports The San Diego Union-Tribune.

The collision took place off Laurel Avenue, south of Division Street, at about 9:00 a.m.

A woman told authorities she suffered a leg cramp prior to crashing her car into the building.

According to National City Fire Department officials, another woman and her dog were inside the impacted apartment at the time of the crash, but neither they nor any other residents were hurt.

It was unclear whether the driver suffered any injuries, but she declined transport to a hospital.

Authorities said eight of the affected residents were expected to be able to return to their apartments later in the day. Two others who live in the directly damaged apartment would be asked to find other lodging.

Damage to the property was estimated to total about $60,000.
