2 arrested after chase, multi-car crash on SR-52 in Santee

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA — Two people were arrested Tuesday afternoon after a police chase ended with a multi-car crash on California Highway 52 in Santee, reports ABC 10 News.
The collision occurred on the eastbound lanes just west of Mast Boulevard, at about 1:35 p.m.
According to the San Diego Police Department, the events first unfolded in the area of Hancock Street and West Washington Street about 15 minutes prior to the crash.
An officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a gray-and-green Lexus for a registration violation, but the driver sped north up Interstate 5, prompting a pursuit.
Authorities said the fleeing driver reached speeds of up to 110 miles per hours and weaved onto the freeway shoulder to pass traffic. The officer continued following the suspect as he merged onto SR-52 and traveled east through the Kearny Mesa and Tierrasanta areas.
As the suspect approached Mast Boulevard, the Lexus hit multiple other vehicles, spun out, and came to a stop.
Following the crash, the male driver and his passenger were taken into custody.
No injuries were reported in the event.
