2 women hit, seriously hurt by car on Gilman Dr in La Jolla

SAN DIEGO, CA — Authorities are investigating a pedestrian crash Thursday evening in San Diego’s La Jolla area that left two women with serious injuries, according to ABC10 News.

San Diego Police said the incident occurred on the 8700 block of Gilman Drive, in an area south of UC San Diego School of Medicine. Officers were dispatched to the scene at about 8:24 p.m.

Preliminary details indicate two women, ages 73 and 49, were on foot and crossing Gilman Drive from the west curb. Authorities said the female pedestrians entered the path of a red 2017 Toyota Imperial traveling south on the road, and were hit by the vehicle, which was driven by a 44-year-old woman.

One of the victims suffered a fractured pelvis and a brain bleed, while the other sustained leg injuries and reported back pain. Both patients, whose injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening, were transported to an area hospital.

No other information on the female driver has been shared, and no charges have been reported.

The SDPD’s Traffic Division continues to investigate the crash. At this time, alcohol has been ruled out as a contributing factor.
