3 hurt in multi-car wreck on Fairmount Ave near Kensington

SAN DIEGO, CA — Three people were injured, two seriously, in a multi-vehicle collision on Fairmount Avenue near San Diego’s Kensington neighborhood, reports FOX 5 San Diego.

The accident happened in the 4800 block of the road shortly after 10:00 p.m.

According to San Diego Police, a 31-year-old male driver was northbound when he began to merge into another northbound lane as his own was ending. While merging, he struck the back corner of another vehicle. The impact of the crash caused the second vehicle’s 32-year-old driver to lose control and travel over the center median and into the southbound lanes, where it collided with a third vehicle. Meanwhile, the first vehicle was sent into a large construction truck parked along the curb.

Authorities said the second driver suffered serious injuries, including a fractured pelvis and lacerations to the liver and a kidney.

A 65-year-old male passenger in the third vehicle, driven by a 57-year-old woman, sustained a fractured sternum.

The first driver reported pain, but it was unclear whether or not he had to be transported to a hospital.

No further updates have been released at this time, but authorities said they do not suspect DUI.

An investigation remains underway.
