SAN DIEGO, CA — Three people were injured Thursday night in a crash involving six SDPD vehicles, a stolen vehicle, and a Tesla near San Diego’s Otay Mesa area, reports NBC San Diego.
San Diego Police said the collision occurred on the southbound lanes of Interstate 805, near the California Highway 905 split, shortly after 7:40 p.m.
According to officials, the events unfolded when a caller reported seeing his stolen truck traveling on SR-94. Officers tried to pull over the vehicle, but its female driver sped away, prompting a pursuit that involved multiple squad cars and a helicopter.
Authorities said the suspect was heading southbound on I-805 before she switched to westbound SR-54 and exited at Highland Avenue. She later re-entered southbound I-805, where she hit the back of a blue Tesla.
The impact of the crash caused the driver of the stolen vehicle to eject onto the roadway as the vehicle flipped into a ditch with a passenger inside. An SDPD officer hit their brakes to avoid striking the woman, causing two other police vehicles to rear-end the first.
Officials said the woman and her male passenger were both sent to local hospitals. The female suspect, who was losing consciousness during the response, was taken to a trauma center, while the man was seen being transported by police while wearing a neck brace.
One officer reported pain and was expected to seek treatment for undisclosed injuries.
