SAN DIEGO, CA — Three people were hurt in a multi-vehicle collision Sunday morning, ending a city-wide police pursuit in San Diego’s Corridor neighborhood, reports OnScene.TV.
The wreck occurred at the Orange Avenue and 35th Street intersection. It was first reported by OnScene at 8:50 a.m.
According to San Diego Police, the events first unfolded in the Kearny Mesa area, where an undercover Sheriff’s deputy observed a woman get into a stolen Toyota Tacoma. The deputy followed the vehicle as the woman drove away. Other deputies were called to assist in a traffic stop, but the female driver fled at high speed. The chase led authorities on I-15 southbound, onto El Cajon Boulevard, and then through multiple city streets.
At one point, the suspect ran a red light at the Orange and 35th intersection where she collided with a Toyota SUV. The impact of the crash caused the SUV to reverse down Orange Avenue, where it struck a Toyota Prius. Meanwhile, the Tacoma was sent off the roadway before hitting two electrical junction boxes and then a thick fence.
The male driver of the Toyota SUV suffered undisclosed injuries and was transported to an area hospital. The male driver of the Prius reported pain but declined transport.
Authorities said the suspect, who was suspected of impairment at the scene, was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries and to be evaluated for DUI.
