At least 1 hurt in multi-vehicle crash on I-5 near Del Mar Heights

SAN DIEGO, CA — Medics responded to a crash involving multiple vehicles Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 5 near San Diego’s Del Mar Heights area, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The accident took place on the northbound lanes at Exit 34 to Del Mar Heights Road. It was first reported to the CHP at 2:48 p.m.

Authorities have not said what led up to the crash, but up to five vehicles were involved. A black Tesla SUV came to rest blocking lanes 1 and 2, a white Acura was found overturned in lane 3, a white van and a gray Toyota Prius were reported on the right shoulder, and a Cadillac CT4 was stopped in the HOV lane about 1.4 miles north from the crash site.

It was unclear how many people were injured and to what extent, but at least one person was observed exiting their vehicle with visible blood on their hands. Multiple people were seen walking out of their vehicles.

By 3:12 p.m., all vehicles had been moved to the right shoulder, and an ambulance had responded to the scene, blocking the right lane.
