Authorities ID victim killed in I-15 wrong-way crash near Serra Mesa

SAN DIEGO, CA — Officials have identified a woman who died early Sunday after a wrong-way crash on Interstate 15 in San Diego’s Serra Mesa area, reports FOX 5 San Diego.

The California Highway Patrol said the fatal wreck occurred on the southbound lanes of I-15 past Aero Drive, at around 1:30 a.m.

Preliminary details indicate the victim, 32-year-old Yannira Rodriguez was driving a black Honda Fit southbound on I-15 when the Honda was hit by an Infiniti QX 30 traveling in the wrong direction.

Rodriguez was pronounced deceased at the scene, confirmed officials. Her passenger, a woman whose identity remains undisclosed, was rushed to a local hospital with serious injuries.

The wrong-way Infiniti, driven by a 25-year-old man, continued up the southbound lanes until it collided with a Nissan Altima driven by a 58-year-old woman.

Authorities said the causing driver was also transported to a hospital, but no information on his condition has been released.

An investigation remains open and ongoing, but alcohol/or drugs are believed to have contributed to the wreck. The CHP has not reported any charges as of this writing.
