Car hydroplanes, crashes under big rig on I-15 in Rancho Bernardo

SAN DIEGO, CA — A driver survived a major crash involving a semi-truck late Monday on Interstate 15 in northeast San Diego, according to ABC10 News.

The accident occurred on the southbound lanes of I-15 near Exit 24 to Rancho Bernardo Road, in the city’s Rancho Bernardo neighborhood. It was first reported shortly before 11:15 p.m.

Preliminary details indicate a car hydroplaned while traveling over the wet roadway and spun out before crashing under a big rig.

Following the impact, the truck driver was able to pull over to the shoulder of the roadway. Though the car had become wedged under the semi, the truck’s under-ride protection had absorbed much of the impact, allowing the driver of the car to self-extricate without any injury. The semi driver was also uninjured.

The California Highway Patrol has not released any information regarding potential charges.
