Carlsbad Police Injure Two in Car Accident

An unidentified 47-year-old woman was struck and injured in a serious car accident in Carlsbad that occurred on April 20‚ 2011‚ around 8 a.m. at Greenhaven Drive and El Fuerte Street. According to the responding California Highway Patrol officers‚ a marked police car collided with a private passenger vehicle‚ injuring the driver as well as the Carlsbad police officer. It is known from the available information that the police cruiser was responding to another traffic accident when it struck the vehicle.

The victim suffered serious injuries and was immediately transported to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla for treatment. The investigating officers are trying to determine the exact cause of this serious car accident. If it is found that the police officer driving the vehicle was speeding and violating procedure or was inattentive or violated the right of the way‚ then he or the Department might be held liable for the injuries suffered by the victim. Though the police officer was answering the call of duty‚ it would be interesting to know if he compromised with any traffic laws.
