Catalina Island, CA- Pilot Died In A Helicopter Crash

The pilot of a helicopter that crashed in Catalina Island, CA, was found dead after the debris of the crash wreckage was found on Tuesday, June 18, 2019. The said debris was found a few minutes before 10 am on June 18, 2019, Tuesday, on the west side of Catalina Island. The pilot was believed to be a man in his 60’s. It was believed that he was the only occupant of the doomed helicopter. The man was known to frequently fly from Torrance to Catalina Island, then back to Torrance. However, he had not always landed on Catalina Island whenever he flew his helicopter. The Air Force Coordination Rescue Center reportedly called the Sheriff’s Department after the pilot had not returned from his flight after 16 hours of being gone. A search and rescue team was dispatched to search for the pilot and his helicopter. The team searched the last coordinates the helicopter was known to be. As such, the wreckage of the doomed helicopter and the pilot’s remains were found there. The helicopter was reportedly a Robinson R44. The FAA and NTSB planned to conduct an investigation on the cause of the crash.
