Chico, CA- 2 People Dead And Several Others Injured In A 4 Vehicle Crash On Highway 99

A 3-axle dump truck travelling 55 miles per hour northbound on Highway 99 crashed into a Chevy that was slowing down on Highway 99 in Chico, CA on Friday, June 21, 2019. The force of the collision pushed the Chevy into a third vehicle, a Toyota mini van. The mini van was then pushed into an 18-wheel big rig that was stopped at the light at Neal Road. The 2 occupants of the 2004 Chevrolet sedan died in the crash. One male and one female were the occupants of the said vehicle who were killed. The occupant of the other vehicle sustained major injuries from the crash. The driver of the 2011 Volvo dump truck was identified as Thomas Fairhurst from Antioch, 55. The driver of the Toyota Sienna sustained major injuries from the crash. The said driver was identified as 63-year old Ellen Blee, a Chico resident. The other 2 occupants of the Toyota Sienna also sustained major injuries. These 2 occupants were identified as Kristopher Blee of Chico, 57, and Olivia Blee, 19. A 2019 Freightliner was also involved in the collision. The driver of this vehicle was identified as 49-year old Imre Gerbl of Winnipeg, Manitoba. It was not known as to whether or not alcohol and drugs were factors that caused the crash. The cause of the crash is being investigated.
