CHP responds to multi-vehicle wreck on SR-163 in Hillcrest

SAN DIEGO, CA —  A multi-vehicle collision was reported Wednesday afternoon on California Highway 163 near San Diego’s Hillcrest neighborhood, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The accident took place on the southbound highway north of University Avenue, shortly before 1:41 p.m.

Details are limited, but three vehicles were involved. An early investigation indicates a driver in a red minivan ran a black Nissan Sentra off the roadway and into the dirt. Both of those vehicles came to rest on the right shoulder while a silver Jeep came to a stop in the center divider, though it is unclear how the Jeep was impacted.

One occupant in the Jeep reported pain to their wrists, but ultimately declined transport to a hospital.

Both the Jeep and the Nissan required tow services at the scene, indicating significant property damage.

Two left lanes and the University Avenue offramp were blocked during the response, but by 2:04 p.m., only the ramp remained closed.
