A man who attempted to rob a bank in Chula Vista, California crashed his vehicle while escaping from police on the road. The bank robber was trapped in the wreckage in his vehicle during the accident. According to Chula Vista Police Department Lt. John English, a man went inside the Cal Coast Credit Union on Wednesday, May 29, 2019, before 2 pm in Chula Vista. The bank is located in 300 block of E.H. Street. The man demanded money from the teller as soon as he entered the bank. The other bank employees trippped the silent alarm after having recognized the bank robber as the possible culprit of other bank robberies within the area. The bank robber left the bank after the teller handed over the money to him. A client in the bank called 911. The client described the bank robber’s car to the police upon calling 911. Chula Vista Police Department tried to stop the bank robber on the road. The police chased the suspect on E.H. Street. The bank robber ran a red light and crashed into another vehicle just close to the intersection of Rutgers Avenue and Otay Lakes Road.
The bank robber sustained minor injuries from the accident. He needed to be extricated from his vehicle after he became trapped in it. As medics rescued the bank robber, money fell out of his vehicle, according to Lt. English. It was not known, however, if the money was robbed from the bank.
