Driver crashes into junction box, North Clairemont home

SAN DIEGO, CA — A woman crashed her car into an SDG&E transformer junction box and then into a home Monday morning in San Diego’s North Clairemont area, according to OnScene.TV.

Authorities said the events unfolded as the woman, who was driving a Volkswagen Jetta, failed to negotiate a curve while turning left from Arroyo Lindo Avenue onto the southbound lane of Hidalgo Avenue.

Authorities said the Jetta traveled across the road and struck the junction box, causing an audible explosion. The driver was then said to have backed up and gone forward again, before crossing the street and leaving the roadway. The car then slammed through a fence and then into a house, where it damaged a water line.

Neighbors rushed to help the driver from her vehicle.

No injuries were reported in the incident, but at least nine homes had to go without power until SDG&E crews could repair.

The water line in the impacted home was also scheduled to be fixed.

At this time, authorities have not shared details on the cause of the crash or any pending citations.
