Driver dies after crash with detached boat in rural Jamul

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA — A 49-year-old Bonita woman died Saturday night after a boat fell off a trailer and struck her car on California Highway 94 in Jamul, reports ABC10 News.

The fatal incident occurred on the eastbound highway near Honey Springs Road shortly before 6:30 p.m.

An early investigation indicates the woman was behind the wheel of a 2016 Fiat 500 going eastbound when the car was hit by a boat trailer that had become detached from a 2000 Mazda B300 pickup truck.

The victim suffered critical injuries and was rushed to Sharp Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased about three hours later.

The victim’s husband, who had been a passenger in the Fiat, sustained minor injuries.

Authorities said the driver of the pickup truck, a 28-year-old man, was uninjured in the event. He has since been arrested for suspected vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence.
