Driver dies after single-vehicle rollover on I-8 in Alpine

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA — A 32-year-old man died early Wednesday morning after a suspected DUI accident that hurt another on Interstate 8 in Alpine, according to FOX 5 San Diego.

The fatal crash happened on the westbound lanes of I-8 near Tavern Road and was reported at around 12:31 a.m.

Authorities said the victim was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Blazer westbound on the highway when he lost control of the vehicle, causing it to flip over.

The victim was ejected from the vehicle as it overturned and was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to California Highway Patrol.

A 40-year-old woman who was a passenger in the Chevrolet was airlifted to Sharp Memorial Hospital with major injuries. Her condition remains undisclosed.

No further information has been released, but authorities said they suspect alcohol and drugs contributed to the accident.
