Driver injured in crash off Regents Rd near North Clairemont

SAN DIEGO, CA — A man was hospitalized early Sunday after a single-vehicle rollover collision in San Diego’s North Clairemont neighborhood, according to Times of San Diego.

The accident happened along a stretch of Regents Road south of California Highway 52 at about 2:40 a.m.

An early investigation indicates the man was driving an SUV southbound on the road when, for reasons still being investigated, the vehicle ran off the road and traveled up an embankment before overturning on its side.

First responders initially had trouble locating the vehicle, but ultimately found the wreckage under some brush.

Fire crews conducted a rescue extrication for nearly 20 minutes to safely remove the victim. Medics then rushed him to Scripps La Jolla Hospital with moderate injuries.

All southbound lanes were closed in the immediate area for about 90 minutes during the response.
