DUI suspect arrested after fatal crash on I-805 in San Ysidro

SAN DIEGO, CA — A 21-year-old Escondido resident was arrested after a two-vehicle crash early Sunday in San Diego’s San Ysidro area that claimed the life of another person, reports ABC10 News.

The California Highway Patrol said the fatal collision occurred on the northbound side of Interstate 805 at about 5:30 a.m.

According to investigators, the suspect was driving a Volkswagen coupe northbound when the vehicle rear-ended a Honda SUV driven by a 58-year-old man from Tijuana.

The driver of the Honda died from injuries suffered in the crash, confirmed officials. It was not immediately clear whether he was pronounced deceased at the scene or at a hospital.

First responders transported the suspect to an area hospital for unknown injuries. CHP officials confirmed he was placed under custody for suspected impairment.
