DUI suspect arrested after fiery crash off I-15 in Escondido

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA — A man was arrested for suspected DUI early Monday after a fiery rollover wreck off Interstate 15 near northwest Escondido, reports ABC 10 News.

The accident happened on the northbound interstate near Deer Springs Road, shortly after 4:00 a.m.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the man was driving northbound when his car veered off the roadway, overturned, and went up an embankment before coming to a stop.

Officials said the driver was able to self-extricate from the car moments before it became engulfed in flames.

CHP said officers arrived to find the man running in the traffic lanes following the crash. Responding fire crews were able to subdue him before he was transported to a hospital for an evaluation. He was later taken into custody under suspicion of driving under the influence.

No other vehicles were involved, and no serious injuries were reported.
