DUI suspect cited after striking, destroying pole in Lakeside

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA — One person was cited for suspected DUI late Tuesday after a two-vehicle crash that destroyed a light post in Lakeside, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The collision took place at 11154 El Nopal and was first reported to the CHP at 10:13 p.m.

Details are limited, but officials said a male driver in a blue sedan was involved in a crash involving a second vehicle. The crash resulted in the sedan hitting and severing the light post at its base.

In the aftermath of the wreck, traffic control was enforced in the area as both eastbound and westbound lanes of El Nopal were shut down.

At 5:43 a.m., several hours into the next morning, the CHP Traffic Incident Information Page indicated that a “hard closure” was likely to remain in place as San Diego Gas and Electric crews worked to completely replace the light pole.

No serious injuries have been confirmed following the crash.

Officials said the DUI suspect was released from the scene after being issued a citation.
