DUI suspect, juveniles flee after vehicle hits pole in Lakeside

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA — A vehicle struck and damaged a utility pole Friday afternoon, causing wires to fall across nearby trees and a fence in Lakeside, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The incident was reported at 11961 Lemon Crest Drive, in a residential area. Dispatchers first received the call shortly before 2:43 p.m.

Preliminary details indicate a woman was driving a white four-door SUV when the vehicle collided with the pole, severing the pole at its base. The crash also caused live wires to fall onto the ground, two fences, and nearby trees, which were observed smoking.

A witness said after the vehicle came to rest off the roadway, the female driver, who appeared intoxicated, fled the scene on foot with her three juvenile passengers.

Shortly after 2:50 p.m., all eastbound and westbound lanes of Lemon Crest Lane were closed to the public.

The CHP has not said whether the incident is a hit-and-run or confirmed any major injuries, but an ambulance was called to the scene.
