Five children hurt in suspected DUI crash in La Mesa, two suspects arrested

LA MESA, CA – A man and a woman were arrested, and five children were injured in a suspected DUI accident, one that possibly involved a weapon, in La Mesa on Friday night, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

The accident happened on Baltimore Avenue at about 10:40 p.m., after a witness said that a driver of a van had been brandishing a gun from his car window.

The driver fled from an officer who had attempted a traffic stop, before finally crashing.

Five children inside the van suffered minor injuries in the accident. The children, who were reportedly not sitting in a proper car seat, were taken to the hospital.

The female driver was taken into police custody on charges of felony child endangerment and suspected DUI.

The man from the original report who was said to have been wielding a gun had fled the van before the collision. A male suspect, however, was soon apprehended by police.
