Hit-and-run driver sought after fatal pedestrian crash in Alta Vista

SAN DIEGO, CA — Authorities are searching for the driver responsible for a pedestrian crash Friday night that claimed the life of a 42-year-old woman in San Diego’s Alta Vista neighborhood, reports ABC10 News.

The San Diego Police Department said the fatal incident occurred in the 5700 block of eastbound Division Street, on September 22, at around 8:30 p.m.

Preliminary details indicate the woman was pushing a shopping cart on the road’s right shoulder when she was hit by an eastbound car, which then fled the scene.

The victim was pronounced deceased by first responders at the scene, confirmed officials.

According to a witness account, evidence collected at the scene, and surveillance video recovered from the area, investigators have reason to believe that the suspect vehicle is a black Chevrolet Cruze, manufactured some time between 2011 and 2015. Authorities noted that the vehicle should be missing its right-side mirror, as well as the plastic line from the right-front wheel well. It should also have sustained extensive damage to its right-front corner and its windshield.

Investigators urge anyone with information to call 858-573-5002. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. A $1,000 reward is being offered for a tip that results in an arrest in the case.
