Hit-And-Run Driver Injures Pedestrian in Corona

36-year-old Jorge Nunez was struck and seriously injured in a Riverside County hit-and-run car accident that occurred on June 12‚ 2011‚ around 2 a.m. at Sixth and Harris Street‚ two blocks from city hall.  According to the police‚ Nunez was walking across Sixth Street pushing a shopping cart when a westbound vehicle struck him.

Police officials are on the hunt for a green over gray Ford Aerostar van with damage on its right headlight‚ which is believed to have hit the pedestrian. Under California Vehicle Code Section 21950(a)‚ “The driver of a vehicle shall yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within any marked crosswalk or within any unmarked crosswalk at an intersection….”  Apart from this violation‚ another felony of hit-and-run also puts the driver at fault. 

Investigating officers need to find the driver and determine whether the motorist was distracted‚ speeding‚ or was driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. If it is established that the driver was at fault‚ then he will be held liable for the injuries suffered by Nunez.
