Male pedestrian dies after being run over by trash truck in downtown San Diego

SAN DIEGO, CA — A man died early Tuesday morning after a pedestrian crash involving a private trash truck in downtown San Diego, reports ABC10 News.

San Diego Police said the fatal incident occurred at the corner of Sixth Avenue and C Street, near the Fifth Avenue trolley station. Officers and first responders were dispatched to the scene shortly after 5:20 a.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates that, for reasons still unclear, the man had “crawled from the west sidewalk of 1000 6th Avenue into the roadway.” Moments later, a private trash truck driven southbound by a 59-year-old man ran over the victim.

Officials said the victim, believed to be between 30 to 40 years of age, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. His identity remains undisclosed.

All southbound lanes of Sixth Avenue at B Street were shut down for an extended time as an investigation was conducted.
