Man dies after being ejected from parked pickup in National City crash

SAN DIEGO, CA — A 49-year-old man died following a crash Sunday afternoon that caused him to eject from the bed of a parked pickup truck in National City, reports FOX 5 San Diego.

California Highway Patrol officials said the incident occurred at the Sweetwater Road Park & Ride, located at the Interstate 805 and State Route 54 interchange. Officers and first responders were called to the area just before 5:00 p.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates the victim, Gregorio Arreaga, was standing in the bed of a pickup truck, which was parked in the lot. At one point, another car collided with the pickup, sending Arreaga off the bed and beneath another parked vehicle

Arreaga was rushed to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased two days later, on Tuesday, September 19.

No information about the striking vehicle or driver has been released at this time, and no charges have been reported.
