Man hospitalized after being hit by pickup truck in Southcrest

SAN DIEGO, CA — A 46-year-old man was seriously hurt Monday night when he was struck by a vehicle while crossing a road in San Diego’s Southcrest neighborhood, reports ABC10 News.

The San Diego Police Department said the incident occurred in the 3700 block of National Avenue. Officers were dispatched to the scene at about 10:08 p.m.

According to investigators, the male pedestrian was crossing south on National Avenue and was in the westbound lane when he was hit by a driver in a 2020 GMC Sierra. The driver then veered to the left of the roadway and struck a wall with the pickup truck before continuing away from the scene.

The victim, who suffered a collapsed lung and several fractures, was rushed to an area hospital.

Authorities said the striking pickup was later located and recovered from the 3600 block of Logan Avenue, where it was abandoned. No information on the hit-and-run driver has been made available at this time.
