Man hospitalized after car stalls on I-8 in central El Cajon

EL CAJON, CA — A 22-year-old man was seriously injured in a crash Sunday evening after his car ran out of gas and was struck by another vehicle on Interstate 8 in El Cajon, according to Times of San Diego.

The accident occurred on the eastbound lanes pf the freeway near North Mollison Avenue at around 5:45 p.m.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the man was driving east when his 2002 gold Buick came to a full stop in the middle of the right lane. Shortly after, the man was standing near the hood of his vehicle when an eastbound 2014 Hyundai Elantra rear-ended the stopped car.

The man was then also hit in the crash, but it was unclear whether he was hit by his own car or the Hyundai. He suffered major injuries and was rushed to Sharp Memorial Hospital.

Authorities said the driver of the Hyundai, a 32-year-old woman, remained at the scene and cooperated with an investigation.

No further information has been disclosed.
