Man hospitalized after solo-car crash in Carmel Mountain area

SAN DIEGO, CA — A 57-year-old man was seriously injured Friday afternoon after his car crashed down an embankment in San Diego’s Carmel Mountain neighborhood, reports FOX 5 San Diego.

San Diego Police said the accident happened in the 15300 block of Avenue of Science at around 12:30 p.m.

Preliminary details indicate the man was driving a Mazda CX-5 northbound when he failed to negotiate a right turn. The Mazda traveled onto the driveway in front of Innovation Corporate Center, jumped a curb, and then crashed 50 feet down an embankment.

Authorities said the male driver suffered multiple serious but non-life-threatening injuries, including a fracture to his right femur, several vertebrae fractures, and internal bleeding in the neck.

An investigation by the San Diego Police Department’s Traffic Division remains ongoing.
