Man in wheelchair fatally struck by Amtrak train in Carlsbad

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA — A man in a wheelchair died Monday evening after being hit by an Amtrak train while on railway tracks near Carlsbad Village in Carlsbad, according to San Diego Union-Tribune.

The fatal incident occurred along Carlsbad Village Drive near Rotary Park, south of Carlsbad Village Station, shortly before 5:00 p.m.

Few details have been released, but authorities said the victim was hit by a northbound Amtrak train and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Shortly after, North County Transit District announced the stoppage of Coaster commuter trains between Oceanside Transit Center and Carlsbad Poinsettia Station. Train commuters were shuttled by busses between the three northernmost stops along the Coaster line.

No further information has been provided at this time.
