Man killed, another seriously hurt in NW San Marcos crash

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA — A 23-year-old man died Thursday morning following a two-vehicle crash in northwest San Marcos that seriously injured another man, reports ABC10 News.

California Highway Patrol troopers responded to the scene on Deer Springs Road, west of Mesa Rock Road, shortly after 5:30 a.m. Crews with San Marcos’ Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were also dispatched.

According to officials, a 23-year-old Fallbrook man was driving a silver BMW 330Ci eastbound on Deer Springs Road. At one point, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle veered past the double yellow lines and into the path of an oncoming gray Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, resulting in a crash.

The Fallbrook man was pronounced deceased at the scene by first responders, confirmed officials.

The driver of the Toyota Tacoma, who suffered major injuries, was rushed to an area hospital. No updates on his condition have been made available.

A section of the road was closed until about 8:15 p.m. during the emergency response and initial investigation. Authorities said alcohol and drugs have since been ruled out as contributing factors.
