Man on e-scooter hit, seriously hurt by car at Allied Gardens intersection

SAN DIEGO, CA — A 36-year-old man was hit and seriously hurt by a vehicle early Tuesday while riding an electric scooter in San Diego’s Allied Gardens neighborhood, reports ABC10 News.

The collision occurred at the corner of Delbarton Street and Zion Avenue shortly after 1:00 a.m.

According to San Diego Police, the man was operating an electric scooter when he failed to stop at a stop sign. Moments after entering the intersection, the scooter was struck by a 2012 Toyota Camry.

The victim, who suffered multiple internal injuries, including a cerebral hemorrhage and pneumothorax, was rushed to a local hospital.

The Camry driver, a 53-year-old man, was not reported hurt.

An investigation by the San Diego Police Department remains underway. At this time, officials have ruled out alcohol as a contributing factor. No charges have been reported.
