Motorcyclist injured in hit-and-run in San Diego’s Otay Mesa

SAN DIEGO, CA — A 44-year-old motorcyclist was seriously injured Monday evening after being struck by an SUV in San Diego’s Otay Mesa neighborhood.

The crash occurred near the intersection of Airway Road and Sanyo Avenue at approximately 6:00 p.m.

A small SUV was heading south when its driver ran a stop sign and broadsided the motorcyclist before fleeing the scene, according to San Diego police.

The rider was transported to a hospital with an open fracture on his left leg.

An investigation remains underway as authorities search for the causing vehicle, believed to be a red 2017-2020 Kia Sportage SUV with damage to its front right.
