Multi-vehicle crash reported on SR-163 NB near Birdland

SAN DIEGO, CA — An ambulance was called early Thursday evening after a multi-vehicle wreck on California Highway 163 near San Diego’s Birdland neighborhood, according to California Highway Patrol.

The accident occurred on the northbound highway north of Genesee Avenue and was first reported by CHP shortly before 5:00 p.m.

Authorities indicated five vehicles were involved, including two SUVs, two sedans, and a motorcycle. All vehicles had their airbags deployed and came to rest in the roadway, blocking multiple lanes. Heavy vehicle debris was observed at the scene.

All vehicles sustained damage and at least three required towage.

At this time, CHP has not released information regarding the condition of the parties involved.
