Multiple hurt in rollover crash at Kearny Mesa Carl’s Jr.

SAN DIEGO, CA — Several people were injured, two seriously, Saturday evening when a pickup truck flipped and hit another vehicle at a drive-through in San Diego’s Kearny Mesa area, repots ABC10 News.

The rollover occurred in the 4000 block of Kearny Mesa Boulevard at about 6:30 p.m.

San Diego Police said a 23-year-old man was behind the wheel of a 1990 Toyota Tacoma heading southbound on the road. At one point, the male driver failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway, causing the pickup to strike a curb, launch, and then overturn into the wall at a nearby Carl’s Jr. drive-through.

In the process, the pickup rear-ended a 2001 Honda Accord that was waiting in the drive-through line.

Authorities said the causing driver suffered serious injuries, including a fractured vertebrae and a brain bleed. In the Honda, a backseat passenger fractured their ribs, the front-seat passenger sustained a cut to their head, and the driver reported unspecified pain.

An investigation by the SDPD’s Traffic Division remains in progress.
