Multiple injuries reported after police pursuit crash in Serra Mesa

SAN DIEGO, CA – Multiple people were injured as a result of a multi-vehicle crash following a police pursuit in Serra Mesa this morning, according to the Times of San Diego.

The incident began on Escondido Avenue after an undercover officer and marked police attempted to stop a woman allegedly entering a stolen Toyota Tacoma. The woman then reportedly fled on I-15 southbound before exiting on El Cajon Boulevard, and a pursuit ensued.

There, she allegedly ran a red light on 35th Street and Orange Avenue at around 8:50 a.m. and collided with a Toyota SUV. The impact sent the SUV into a Toyota Prius and caused the Tacoma to collide with two electrical boxes, one of which struck another nearby vehicle. The Tacoma finally came to rest against a metal fence.

The driver of the truck, 25-year-old Jamie Bender, was suspected of being under the influence at the time of the crash. She was sent to the hospital with minor injuries.

The man driving the Prius sustained minor injuries but refused transport to the hospital.

The male driver of the SUV was taken to the hospital with minor wounds.

Bender was booked into the Las Colinas Detention facility. She is facing vehicle theft, among other felony charges, and her bail was set at $100,000.
