Occupants missing after stolen vehicle lands in SD Bay

SAN DIEGO, CA – The whereabouts of the occupants of a stolen vehicle that ended up overturned in the San Diego Bay on Sunday remain a mystery.

According to Fox News San Diego, the accident was reported when a good Samaritan heard tires screeching and asked her father to investigate. The red sedan was overturned in the shallow water near Harbor Island at about 2 a.m.

The captain of a charter boat dove into the water to look inside the vehicle when the first team of responders arrived without a diver. However, the vehicle was empty, which a city diver later confirmed.

The only clue to what happened to the occupants was two pairs of wet footprints leading away from the scene.

Authorities also confirmed that the vehicle was stolen.
