Passenger dies after suspected DUI crash in Coronado

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA — A 25-year-old woman died early Friday after a single-vehicle collision that injured two others in downtown Coronado, reports FOX 5 San Diego.

Coronado Police responded to the scene in the 1100 block of Orange Avenue, near Coronado Star Park, shortly after 12:30 a.m.

According to investigators, a 20-year-old man was driving a white sedan southbound when he veered off the roadway and hit a light pole and possibly a tree. The impact of the crash caused the vehicle to flip and eject the driver and at least one other occupant.

The 25-year-old woman, who was sitting in a rear passenger seat, was killed in the crash, confirmed officials.

The driver and a 20-year-old female passenger suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Both patients were rushed to a local hospital where their condition remains undisclosed.

An investigation was in progress, but alcohol and speed are believed to have contributed to the fatal crash.
