Pedestrian, driver left injured after crash in Kearny Mesa

SAN DIEGO, CA — A pedestrian and a driver were both hospitalized Wednesday afternoon after a collision in San Diego’s Kearny Mesa neighborhood, reports FOX 5 San Diego.

The San Diego Police Department said the incident took place in the 9300 block of Lightwave Avenue at about 3:14 p.m.

An early investigation shows a 35-year-old woman was behind the wheel of a white 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross heading east in the left eastbound lane. Authorities said a 48-year-old female pedestrian appeared to be walking in a “southerly direction” and had stopped on the roadway’s raised median before she was hit by the Corolla Cross.

The pedestrian, who reported neck and back pain, was transported to a local hospital along with the driver, who suffered “major head trauma.” Authorities said the driver was believed to be in critical condition.

An investigation by the SDPD remains ongoing, but impairment is not a suspected factor.
