Pedestrian fatally hit by driver on I-5 NB in Encinitas

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA — A 46-year-old Solana Beach man died late Sunday night after being struck by a vehicle on Interstate 5 in Encinitas, reports Del Mar Times.

The fatal incident took place on the northbound interstate at Santa Fe Drive, near the Encinitas Community Park, shortly before midnight.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the man was walking in the second-left lane when he was hit by a 50-year-old Los Angeles County man in a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The pedestrian died from his injuries at the scene, confirmed authorities.

The driver, who was not suspected of impairment, stayed after the crash and cooperated with officers. He was not reported hurt.

Sections of the northbound interstate were closed during the response and were reopened at about 2:30 a.m. into the next day.
