Pedestrian fatally hit by driver on I-5 near UC San Diego

SAN DIEGO, CA — A man died late Monday night after being struck by a vehicle on Interstate 5 near University of California San Diego, according to ABC 10 News.

The fatal incident took place near Nobel Drive, in the city’s La Jolla Village, at around 11:09 p.m.

California Highway Patrol said the male pedestrian was walking along traffic when he was struck by a southbound Toyota sedan driven by a 23-year-old man.

The victim died from his injuries at the scene, confirmed CHP.

All southbound lanes in the area were closed for several hours during the emergency response and investigation.

By 4:00 a.m., the scene had cleared from the roadway and all lanes were reopened to traffic.

At this time, authorities have not disclosed further details regarding the circumstances behind the event or any pending charges.
