Pedestrian fatally hit by driver while jaywalking in La Mesa

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA — A man died late Saturday after being struck by a vehicle while crossing a road near southwest La Mesa, according to Times of San Diego.

The fatal incident occurred in the area of University Avenue and 70th Street at around 10;35 p.m.

An early investigation indicates the victim was attempting to walk across University Avenue outside of a marked crosswalk when he was hit by a Volkswagen Jetta.

The driver stopped immediately after the crash and alerted authorities.

Crews with Heartland Fire and Rescue applied life-saving measures to the victim, but he died from his injuries at the scene.

La Mesa Police said the driver cooperated with responding officers. Alcohol and drugs are not believed to have been factors in the crash.

No further details have been released at this time.
