Pedestrian fatally hit by vehicle on SR-15 near City Heights

SAN DIEGO, CA — A man died early Monday morning after being hit by a driver on California Highway 15 near San Diego’s City Heights neighborhood, according to San Diego Union-Tribune.

The accident occurred on the northbound lanes of SR-15 just south of University Avenue shortly before 4:30 a.m.

California Highway Patrol said moments before a white Tesla struck the victim, they had received a call about a man trying to run onto the freeway from the center divider.

Responding crews arrived to find the male pedestrian seriously injured. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The driver of the Tesla stayed after the collision and cooperated with authorities. Authorities did not suspect the suspect impairment on the part of the driver, but toxicology tests are expected to be run on the victim.

Two left lanes closed for nearly an hour as an investigation was conducted.
