Pedestrian hit, injured by SUV on Third Ave in Chula Vista

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA — A man was hospitalized early Wednesday after being struck by an SUV while pushing a shopping cart across a Chula Vista road, reports The San Diego Union-Tribune.

Chula Vista Police said the incident occurred at Third Avenue and Palomar Street, in the Castle Park neighborhood, at about 8:35 a.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates the pedestrian, who is believed to be homeless, was walking across the street with a shopping cart full of wood pallets when he was hit.

Medics rushed the victim to a local hospital for possible internal, but non-life-threatening, injuries. Officials said the patient was listed in stable condition.

The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with responding officers. It was not immediately clear whether any charges are expected to be filed.

Footage captured by OnScene TV shows a cracked windshield on the SUV, as well as damage to its hood.
