Person fatally hit by vehicle at scene of another crash on SR-52 in Kearny Mesa

SAN DIEGO, CA — One person was killed Friday afternoon when they were hit by a vehicle moments after exiting their own car on State Route 52 in San Diego’s Kearny Mesa area, reports FOX 5 San Diego.
The fatal incident occurred on the westbound lanes of SR-52 at the Exit 3 ramp to northbound Interstate 805. It was first reported at around 12:00 p.m.
According to authorities, the events unfolded when a sedan and a semi-truck were involved in a minor rear-end crash. The driver of the sedan had exited their vehicle to talk to the semi-truck driver when a third vehicle struck them.
Responding EMS personnel pronounced the driver of the sedan deceased at the scene.
No one else was reported hurt in the event.
Crews had the transition ramp and the right northbound lane of I-805 south of Governor Drive closed during the emergency response, leaving at least two lanes open to traffic.
A SigAlert was enforced in the area, which resulted in a traffic backup that stretched to Balboa Avenue (Exit 21).
