Pickup truck overturns in crash on SR-78 WB near CSU San Marcos

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA — Medics were called after a rollover crash involving two vehicles Thursday afternoon on State Route 78 in San Marcos, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The accident occurred on the westbound lanes of SR-78 at Exit 13 to North Twin Oaks Valley Road, near California State University San Marcos. Dispatchers first received the call at around 1:45 p.m.

Officials have not indicated a possible cause of the wreck, but a pickup truck hauling a trailer overturned onto its side, and at least one of the involved vehicles caught fire.

The CHP Traffic Incident Information Page indicates a Good Sams crew member was trying to rescue at least one person out of a vehicle by breaking windows.

Three westbound lanes were initially blocked, but shortly before 2:00 p.m., all westbound traffic came to a standstill as a SigAlert was enforced in the area.

It was not immediately clear whether anyone was seriously hurt, but at least one ambulance and a tow truck were requested at the scene.
